Architecture of Optical Burst Switched Ring Network with Distributed Fairness Control

چکیده
This paper proposes an optical burst switched network architecture with distributed fairness control. Burst dropping at intermediate nodes is the weakness of the Optical Burst Switched network (OBS-n). To rectify this, the proposed architecture combines three technologies: ring structure, upstream prioritized switching (UPS), and distributed fairness control. By performing UPS on the ring, bursts are never dropped at downstream nodes. However, UPS suffers from positional priority problem in that access nodes farther from the destination have higher priorities over those closer to the destination. Therefore, to keep fairness even if the traffic is unbalanced, we apply LQF (Longest Queue First) algorithm as a distributed fairness control scheme. As a result, our architecture offers high throughput and enhanced Fairness Index of to close to 1 even if the traffic is unbalanced.

Performance of Optical Burst Switched WDM Ring Network with TTFR System
In this paper, we propose an architecture of Optical Burst Switched WDM ring network. In our proposed OBS ring network, every node is equipped with one tunable transmitter and one fixed-tuned receiver (TTFR) oparating on a given wavelength that identifies the node. TTFR type ring network has an advantage that no receiver collisions occur and each node can detect channel collision by transmitter...
متن کاملA simulation study of optical burst switching and access protocols for WDM ring networks
We consider a wavelength division multiplexing metro ring architecture with optical burst switching. The ring consists of N nodes, and each node owns a home wavelength on which it transmits its bursts. The ring operates under the fixed transmitter tunable receiver scheme. Control information is transmitted on a separate control channel. Five different burst switching access protocols are propos...
متن کاملAccess Protocols to Support Different Service Classes in an Optical Burst Switching Ring
Several access protocols are proposed to support different service classes in an optical burst switched ring. Their performance is evaluated through simulation. Various performance metrics such as throughput, utilization, burst loss rate, end-to-end delay and fairness are used to analyze the behaviour of each protocol.

In the metropolitan area, traditional SONET/SDH circuit switched rings are likely to be replaced with optical packet/burst switching technologies. In this paper we consider a slotted WDM optical packet ring operating without resource reservation mechanisms. In such rings, optical packets in transit have priority over traffic to be inserted by the node. Packets to be inserted are thus queued acc...

In Wavelength-Routed Optical Burst-Switched Networks (WR-OBS), lightpaths are dynamically established for the transmission of bursts (aggregation of packets in edge routers) through a bufferless optical core. In this paper, we show how WR-OBS can provide end-to-end delay guarantees, and introduce methods to achieve fairness in the network. The conditions under which WR-OBS bring operational adv...
